The Story
A few weeks ago, I was reflecting on my phone use. I was using it so much, I could drain the battery twice a day.
I thought: what's a device that I can use all day and will entertain me with minimal distractions and maybe a stopwatch.
Well, the iPod! The old ones! I had one as a child and my dad had one too but his was way older and has had a dead hard drive for at least 12 years.
I'm also a collector and I was an early investor of DankPods in that I watched him 6 years ago when he only had about 4 videos up, so this was just my cup of tea. Right up my alley. Whatever saying you like.
When I got home that day, I dug out my dad's iPod out of the garage and got ready to fix it.
When I opened it, the plug was bent to hell but I managed to break it even more and then fix it back up.
The screen was burn to hell but luckily I managed to semi-fix it by replacing the polarizer. By semi-fix I meant I got some horizontal dead lines on the screen while replacing the polarizer. Oops.
But, the nail in the coffin. My dumbass was being reckless and accidentally tore the clickwheel cable. That was the end of the iPod. It had resisted attempts to fix it for years, when I was a child and when I was a dumb ass teen trying to open it LIKE THIS for some stupid reason. It didn't even work!!! I didn't get it open!!!
So dad's iPod is dead. I then started looking for classic iPods thinking "These things must be cheap, they're old and I doubt anyone wants an iPod as much as I do right now"
But surprisingly, I was wrong!!!
These things are now valuable all because of previously mentioned DankPods making silly little youtube videos about them in the year 2020.
Now everyone thinks these are cool and useful so they're expensive, parts for them are expensive and now there's an industry in modified iPods.
Just goes to show people can and will buy just about anything
So, I spend a few days looking for an iPod to buy, since I noticed, every so often a person who doesn't know these old iPods are valuable will post them up for 30 bucks but scalpers will quickly come in and scoop it up before I even get the chance to see the listing. But eventually, in comes, this iPod mini:
It was 27€, although it was from Italy so shipping made it 35€, which the nerds at the iPod discord told me is a good deal but honestly I was a bit desperate now and I just wanted a good device that worked and I could modify easily, which is why I didn't just buy a Nano or a Shuffle.
You can't upgrade the storage of those easily, and the highest storage a Nano had was 16 gigabytes to my knowledge. Which is actually pretty good, but they're hard to find and expensive when you do find them, so it defeats the point.
Point is: I bought the mini immediately on Thursday, September 18th, 2025 and it was shipped the next day. I am soon to be the owner of a cool modified iPod.
Desperation
But, honestly, I still wanted a classic iPod. Those things can do such fancy things like colors and images.
So, I decided to go to the sunday flea market in the middle of town about 3 days later.
When the day comes I am energized, excited and on the hunt for the pod, but when I get there and browse around I find there's only 2 people selling classic iPods.
So I went up to the first one: A man that looks like he's about 3 hours away from dying of old age and when I asked him for the price he literally went "fort- sixty euros." so I gave him an offer of 35 because what the hell, man. Him, being as nice as he possibly can, opens his disgusting yap and tells me "Tomorrow, not today.", referencing the fact that the flea market is open one day a week. So I mentally tell him to go to hell and walk off.
When I go to the 2nd person's store, they're selling 2 iPods, one for 80€ and the other for 120€. Great!
I decide to go back to the 1st person's store and give them a 40 euro offer. To which they reply by upping the price by 20 euros. When asked why they did this, they pointed to a cafeteria in front of them and stated that "back then a coffee costed 50 cents, now it's 2 euros.". He then ignored everything else I said to him. I have a lot of words I want to type about that man, but I don't want to swear on this silly little website.
I then went back to the 2nd person and offered them 40 euros, which I'll admit, was all the money I had brought for the occation. He was at least nice about declining my offer and not just immediately throwing me off a cliff. He nicknamed me "Junior" and told me "No, junior, at the least I can go seventy."
BUT!!!! I had found a guy selling a Nano for 15 bucks, so, that was a deal even though I said I wasn't going to buy a Nano earlier but at worst I'll resell it for some profit. I bought some cables to charge the pods too since I didn't have any on hand, I bought 3 of them and they all cost me 2€ so it's whatever.
When I get home, I charge it up for a while. Then a while more. Then some more time. It never turned on so I dissasemble it and determine it's fried. Only thing it does when plugged in is heat up like hell. Also 2 out of the 3 cables I bought didn't work. That sucked.
Impatience
So now I'm just waiting for the iPod mini to arrive. But, it's... been a while.
I live in Spain. Shipping times aren't like how they are in the U.S. of A. At most, it might take 3 days for something to arrive.
But.. it's been five. It's now Thursday, September 25th, 2025 (not including weekend since shipping companies don't work weekends)
I've been checking the tracking code and it's not changed a single time since the seller shipped it.
Well, I've got a theory!
I can't quite share what the tracking code looks like, but it looks something like this: "46666666266" That's quite demonic! This iPod... it comes from HELL!!!!!
Does this mean hell is in Italy? Or is this just italian hell?
Well I propose this iPod was owned by Benito Mussolini and when Satan found out he had brought contraband from earth, he listed it on a second-hand store website and sold it to ME!!!!! THAT'S why it's taking so long to ship!!!! Mussolini won't let go of my iPod!!!!
I spent 35 of my hard earned moneys on this, boy. You best let go!!!!
But truly, it has been 7 days since I bought it and I still haven't gotten it.
First update I got was actually a day ago (Friday, September 26th, 2025) telling me it had arrived at Barcelona, Spain. I don't live in Barcelona. I live far from Barcelona. I don't know what language they speak in Barcelona. I don't know what they're doing to tourists in Barcelona, much less iPods. Why is my iPod in Barcelona?!?!?!
Well. I don't know. I don't know when it'll come. Maybe this Monday, September 29th 2025 it will. Maybe it won't.
...that's where you come in.
Come in and bet when my iPod will arrive. Whoever wins, gets three whole internet points to themselves!
NO PAYMENT METHOD NECESSARY!!!!
Do it. You know you wanna.
